African American Outreach on Michigan Tech's campus seeks to bring together African American students at Michigan Tech, while offering unique opportunities and events germane to African American culture.
Responsibilities of this office include planning, implementing, and administering services and programs for African‐American and other underrepresented students. This includes advising, outreach and other support activities related to the functions of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. Please contact Shezwae Fleming with any questions.

Specific Offerings
- Recruitment and retention of minority and underrepresented students.
- Mentorship to students with regard to their academic and personal needs.
- Introduction of students to academic, personal, and professional resources both on and off campus.
- Interaction with parents and teachers to determine students’ needs.
- Advize and assist minority student organizations.
- Support of activities and working relationship with student chapters of NSBE, SHPE, and AISES to help assure that they meet their goals.
- Close working relationship with the ExSEL Programs staff to ensure student success.
